What exactly is "Anomalies: Horror Detective"?

Anomalies: Horror Detective is a harrowing survival horror game in which you represent a paranormal investigator called upon to probe incidents of supernatural activity occurring in a haunted house. However, unlike your typical survival horror game, there is no room for error here: one single misstep, and you have to start completely from scratch. The game increases the tension with procedurally generated anomalies, an unsettling soundscape, and a horrific second dimension known as the Astral Plane wherein the true horror lies.

Gameplay

Investigate the House – Explore the haunted location with an eye for unnatural disturbances, flickering lights, ghostly whispers, or walls shifting around.
Identify the Anomaly – Your aim is to figure out which paranormal one is haunting the house (if any). If you get it wrong, you start all over.
Survive the Astral Plane – On triggering the anomaly, you are dragged into a twisted nightmare version of the house, and survival gets tougher from there.
Endure 10 Trials – The house gets deadlier with every attempt. Few players have even managed to make it through all ten.

Tips & Tricks

Pay Attention – Some anomalies are rather subtle (e.g., distant voices or objects moving on their own). Failing to spot something kills you.
Listen to the Auditory Cues – Sounds such as footsteps or distorted whispering might alert you to hidden dangers.
Keep Cool in the Astral Plane – Panicking would only make it harder to survive. Move carefully and look for routes to escape.
Learn from Every Fail – Each reset changes visitation anomalies, but patterns show with time.

History

The designers have kept Anomalies: Horror Detective free from a real backbone, aside from forking classic survival horror and psychological terror into its own branch, focusing on tension instead of jump scares. The "no checkpoints" mechanic took a generation of early horror games punishing answering carelessness by design.
