What is Baldi's Basics?

Baldi's Basics is a uniquely awkward yet delightfully wacky horror game set in a school that looks just fine from the outside. With its pixel art charm, the game does a fine balancing act in combining comedy with real terror to create experiences that are memorable in the strange way. Confounding, Baldi allows you to experience an environment where you work as a student trying to rescue seven closing exercise books from your friend on the run from Baldi, the strict and unyielding math teacher at the school. On its own, it sounds silly enough for a story, but it's even more chilling when you get into gameplay: this opposite world of reality becomes one of the most exciting\and Breaking-basics-unpredictable Baldi's Basics has ever become.

How to Play

The mission is simple but far from easy: locate and collect seven notebooks hidden around the school. Each notebook is in a different place, and collecting it requires solving a puzzle. Such puzzles range from riddles to logical questions, and every time you give a wrong answer, things actually get worse: Baldi speeds up with every mistake, making it more difficult to flee. The goal is to collect all seven notebooks and flee from the school before Baldi overtakes you.

Tips and Tricks

Always Keep on the Down Low: Move silently. The louder you are, the louder you will be in Baldi's ear.
Answer Puzzles Carefully and Take Your Time: Wrong answers are the worst; after all, they make Baldi more dangerous.
Know the School Layout: Remember your way around the school to plot good routes and avoid getting cornered.
Use Environmental Features: Certain places can become potential temporary shelters or distractions. Use these situations cleverly.
Relax: You will be overwhelmed by towering tension in the game, but staying calm will help you keep your cool and think clearly.

History

Baldi's Basics was born out of the indie game scene and exploded into a cult following for mixing horror elements with comedy. Created by Derek Yu, the game is inspired by classic survival horror games, but the setting is covered by ridiculousness and wit. The pixel art style is both a tribute to retro games as well as a way to build on the black horror dichotomy in the title. In time, Baldi's Basics became a masterpiece of the horror genre, best known for its creativity, challenge, and the unforgettable character Baldi himself.
