What is Retrieval?
Retrieval is a psychological horror RPG that acts as the sequel to the bad ending of The Purge: Desperation. The game immerses players in a grim narrative involving Hank, a bereaved father attempting to reverse his son’s gruesome murder through dark and forbidden rituals. With themes of desperation, moral collapse, and supernatural evil, Retrieval delivers a chilling story-driven experience where the player confronts terrifying choices.
Content Warning: The game contains graphic violence, gore, dark rituals, and child abuse. If these themes bother you, strong discretion is advised.
How to Play
- Exploration & Decisions: Guide Hank through different mildly-dripping-from-darkness environments filled with clues and eerie items linked to the occult.
- Puzzle Solving: Test yourself with unreligious puzzles and choices that drift between salvation and damnation.
- Multiple Endings: Your decisions drastically change the resulting ending with each resolution giving you fragments of a secret truth (and parts of the password to a locked bonus file).
- Survival Element: Hold on to Hank's sanity and resources while things get heavier.
The game should run for about 20–30 minutes; however, its branching paths present a strong incentive to replay.
Tips & Tricks
- Observe Everything: Environmental clues and subtle hints are what you'll need to move forward.
- Save Often: Certain major choices cannot be undone—try them with care.
- Avoid 15th Slot: A piece of cryptic advice from the developer… take it.
- Sink Into Darkness: The game's horror is atmosphere—headphones help propagate this.

With assistant artist @j.da.artist helping complete the narrative setup about grief and monstrosity, the maker team utilized the facilities of RPG Maker to deal a narrative punch.
