What Is Forever Forest?
Forever Forest is a short yet atmospheric RPG designed for Nintendo Game Boy with GB Studio. Drawing upon a dark and weird fantasy idea, about an hour of gameplay offers a melancholy yet fascinatingly absorbing experience. Developed by Timo S. Ipach (Juraturn- Retrogames), it first served as a technical test before morphing into a small, yet memorable adventure. It may have simple grind mechanics, but its allure lies deeply inside the grim story of the forest and strange characters you meet.

How to Play
- Movement: Arrow Keys
- Interact/Confirm: Z (A button)
- Cancel/Menu: X (B button)
- Pause/Start Menu: Enter/Return (START)
- Toggle Options: Shift (SELECT)
Note: Forever Forest has no sound at all, focusing on its visuals and storytelling.
Hints & Tips
- Talk to Everyone: The soul of the game is its characters—the more you speak with the strange inhabitants of the forest, the better.
- Embrace the Grind: The combat is simplistic; however, it is one of the few ways to advance, so embrace it.
- Focus on the Atmosphere: The eerie mood of the game is purposeful—let yourself sink in.
Background
Designed initially as a test to see whether GB Studio could support the making of an RPG, Forever Forest grew into a passion project for its developer. Timo S. Ipach fell much in adoration for the dark and oppressive setting, configuring it into a compact but impactful experience. Although brief, it imbues the player with an enduring impression of gloomy storytelling coupled with a retro feel.
Why Play Forever Forest?
Nostalgic for atmospheric gem RPGs, one must never miss the slim Forever Forest! It is a strong argument that connects those small projects that can brighten the mood on the Game Boy. Perfect for a short play when in the mood for something haunting yet engaging.
