What's EyeOS?
EyeOS is a short, queer mystery encapsulated within a surreal digital detective story. You play a character trying to find the fate of a missing friend by digging through the cryptic computer system that the friend used, called EyeOS. It is a perfect marriage of light absurdity with serious themes of anxiety, dysphoria, and isolation—very much a reflection of the developer's way of dealing with their own mental health. It was made for the Safe In Our World game jam and is a brief, thought-provoking piece best played in one go.
How to Play
- Explore the Interface: Click around on the EyeOS desktop to open files, folders, and hidden clues.
- Use the Search Function: Insert keywords into the search bar but do not hit Enter! The game interferes with your results by autocompleting the search, and pressing Enter might sabotage your findings.
- Keep It Short: Short search terms work wonders. Long and complicated may take you away from the search.
- No Saves (Yet): This game is made to be played all through once, so block out 15-30 minutes to get under its spell.
Tips & Tricks
- Get Creative: Try those emotional keywords, like "lonely" and "lost"—the game reacts to more than just literal clues.
- Keep Your Nose Open: Files, icons, and maybe even the desktop wallpaper could have hints for you.
- Embrace Nonsense: The bizarre tone is absolutely the point. Let weirdness be your compass.
History and Inspirations
EyeOS was created solo by Trainspotter for the Safe In Our World mental-health-oriented game jam. Built using Decker, a multimedia tool by Internet Janitor, it proudly wears its influences on its sleeve—especially the enigmatic feels of En Abime. The game also includes editable templates so others can create their own interactive fiction (with suitable credit, of course).
Content Notes
The game tackles anxiety, dysphoria, and isolation with humor, reflection, and deep sincerity on the topics. The themes are straight-up the center of the experience but are not just dumped on the player's face.
Ready to stroll about a missing friend's digital life? Get EyeOS going—just bear in mind that you will not find answers in straight lines.
