What is Backwoods?

Backwoods is a terrifying survival-horror game that drops you into the wastes of a mysterious Russian town. Collecting dark, unclear lore, you will meet with terrifying monsters, scavenge for weapons, and meet some rather unsettling characters. The ambience is heavy with dread; one could very well be the next. Do you think you can live through the nightmare and make an escape from it?

Controls

Learn these controls and survive in Backwoods:

WASD = Move around
E = Interact with items or doors
R = Reload Weapons
Spacebar = Jump
Q = Use/activate something (1st aid in-game)
Mouse wheel = Switch weapon
F = Activate beam booster
Tab = Pause the game and display menu; press again to return
Esc = Show/hide mouse cursor

Be alert every step of the way; otherwise, your next step may be your final one.

Tips & Tricks

Provide accurate ammunition conservation: Some enemies require more bullets than others.
Get serious about your listening: Some audio cues may warn about a threat nearby.
Get serious about all-around exploring: Some items or clues stashed around as your last help.
Prioritize running from some fights: There is a choice of defeat in a few confrontations; sometimes survival means running away.

History

While Backwoods has no great real-world history of development, it draws ideas from the traditional survival horror genre and Slavic folklore. The impactive atmosphere and uneasy setting grab the player's mind, to a dimension where even every shadow may be hiding something hideous.
